How much do multifocal contacts for presbyopia cost?
A year of multifocal contacts often costs more than the single-vision lens of the same brand. There is no single national price. A daily lens and a monthly lens are different yearly bills, even when both are called multifocal. The number that matters is one prescribed lens, for both eyes, for a year, with the fitting kept off that total.
A year, by how often you replace the lens
Presbyopia is why this lens exists. Near vision gets harder, and a multifocal contact is built to cover more than one distance in one lens.
A year is every box that lens needs for both eyes. A monthly lens uses fewer boxes. A daily lens is a fresh lens each day, so the year is a different pile of boxes. A 2-week lens sits between those two schedules. Do not average the schedules into one multifocal price.
VisionCostGuide, updated June 16, 2026, publishes both-eyes annual ranges for named multifocal lenses. On that update, Biofinity Multifocal monthly is $320-$550. Air Optix plus HydraGlyde Multifocal monthly is $360-$560. Acuvue Oasys Multifocal, a 2-week lens, is $400-$650. Clariti 1 day Multifocal, a daily, is $550-$800. Dailies Total 1 Multifocal, a daily, is $750-$900. Their takeaway band for the year is $300-$900. That band belongs to VisionCostGuide. It is not a blend with another site's table.
A year of multifocal contacts is not one price. On VisionCostGuide's June 16, 2026 update, both-eyes ranges run from monthly Biofinity Multifocal at $320-$550 to daily Dailies Total 1 Multifocal at $750-$900, inside their $300-$900 band.
The same update says the multifocal design raises the price 30-50% over the same brand's standard lens. That percent is VisionCostGuide's claim on June 16, 2026.
Vision Care Center PLLC, one Bellevue office, wrote on April 10, 2026 that multifocal dailies can run up to $1,400 for a year supply, before insurance and rebates. That figure is one office's ceiling. It is not a US price.
LensPricer is a different object. The page header is dated 3/2/2026, and the page says the table updates daily. The figures here are from a fetch on October 2, 2026. They are that site's retailer averages on that fetch, not VisionCostGuide's ranges, and not a permanent national price.
On that fetch, LensPricer's yearly category average was $777 for daily lenses and $1018 for daily multifocals. Bi-weekly was $390, and bi-weekly multifocal was $480. Monthly was $269, and monthly multifocal was $432. A range from one guide and an average from another site are not two measurements of the same year.
On LensPricer's table as fetched October 2, 2026, the yearly average was $1018 for daily multifocals and $432 for monthly multifocals, against $777 and $269 for the single-vision categories on that same page.
The same brand, single vision next to multifocal
Hold one brand's single-vision year next to that same brand's multifocal year, on one table, on one day. LensPricer's October 2, 2026 fetch has five pairs. Each pair is that fetch only. The names are LensPricer's spellings.
Biofinity was $233 for the year, and Biofinity Multifocal was $369.
Air Optix Plus Hydraglyde was $252, and Air Optix Plus Hydraglyde Multifocal was $418.
Dailies Total1 was $945, and Dailies Total1 Multifocal was $1165.
1-Day Acuvue Moist was $841, and 1-Day Acuvue Moist Multifocal was $1150.
Acuvue Oasys was $328, and Acuvue Oasys Multifocal was $503.
A matched pair on that fetch was Biofinity at $233 and Biofinity Multifocal at $369. On each of the five pairs, the multifocal year is the higher figure. The gap is that pair, not a rate for a lens that is not listed.
These yearly figures are LensPricer's. They are not VisionCostGuide's both-eyes ranges, even when a brand name looks familiar. Biofinity Multifocal at $369 on this fetch is not the $320-$550 range. Dailies Total1 Multifocal at $1165 is not the $750-$900 range. Leave each number on the page that printed it.
A daily pair and a monthly pair are still different bills. Dailies Total1 Multifocal at $1165 and Biofinity Multifocal at $369 are not two prices for one year of multifocals. One row is a daily lens. The other is a monthly lens.
Why one average says $279
CareCredit, in an article by Stephanie Dwilson dated March 14, 2025, prints a national average of $279 per year, with a range of $216 to $548. Footnote 12 points at the 2024 Synchrony Average Procedural Cost Study (ASQ360). That study is what practices report. It is not a retail year of boxes. The state table on that page is the same study.
CareCredit's $279 figure, in a March 14, 2025 article, comes from a 2024 study of what practices report. It is not the shelf price of a year of boxes. It does not correct the ranges above, and it does not correct the retailer averages.
Bifocal is not the same lens
CareCredit's design split has no price. A bifocal contact is a hard divide between near and far. A multifocal contact is a blend. A multifocal contact is not a surgical multifocal intraocular lens. Surgery is not a box of lenses.
The fitting is not in the box price
The yearly figures above are lens bills. They do not include the visit that fits the lens. VisionCostGuide's June 16, 2026 update says to budget $150-$300 for the contact lens exam plus multifocal fitting. That line is on the same page as the box ranges, and it is still separate. A lower box price does not pay the fitting.
What a contact lens exam costs without insurance, on its own, is in how much a contact lens exam costs without insurance. This page does not rebuild that table.
The rest of the bill has its own pages
A vision plan allowance is not a box price. What plans pay is in how much contacts cost with insurance.
A manufacturer rebate can change the year after you buy. How rebates work is in how contact lens rebates work.
FSA and HSA money is a way to pay, not a discount on the box. The rules are in can you use FSA or HSA for contacts.
What contacts cost over a year, by channel rather than by lens design, is in how much contacts cost.
Astigmatism is a different specialty lens. What those contacts cost is in how much contacts for astigmatism cost.
Whether buying the year at once pays off is in is a year supply of contacts worth it.
Where the box is cheaper is a different article: are Costco contacts cheaper than the eye doctor.
FAQ
How much do multifocal contacts for presbyopia cost?
There is no single national price. The year is the multifocal version of a specific lens, and a daily lens is a different bill from a monthly lens. On VisionCostGuide's June 16, 2026 update, both-eyes ranges sit inside a $300-$900 band, from monthly Biofinity Multifocal at $320-$550 to daily Dailies Total 1 Multifocal at $750-$900. That band is that guide's. It is not a blend with another site.
Are multifocal contacts more than single-vision contacts?
On the same brand, the multifocal year is often higher, and the gap is that pair on that day. On LensPricer's table as fetched October 2, 2026, Biofinity was $233 and Biofinity Multifocal was $369. That pair is that fetch. It is not a percent to apply to every brand.
Does the yearly price include the fitting?
No. The box price is the lenses. VisionCostGuide's June 16, 2026 update says to budget $150-$300 for the contact lens exam plus multifocal fitting. That line is separate from the yearly box ranges.
